The developer behind the unofficial Nintendo Switch port of Grand Theft Auto 5 is now working on a native Android version. The project comes from a modder known as M0jso of Paralympics Productions, who confirmed the work on Discord.
The Android port will run GTA 5 natively on ARM hardware, rather than through compatibility layers like Winlator. It is built on the same codebase as the Switch port, which used GTA 5 Legacy 1.0.2699 and was recompiled for the Nintendo Switch’s ARM-based Tegra X1 chip. The Switch project was reportedly made possible by GTA 5 source code that leaked in 2023.
Hardware Requirements
The first public Android build has strict requirements. It needs a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, 65GB of storage, and Android 13 or newer.
M0jso said older Snapdragon chips may run the game, but smooth performance is not guaranteed. A broader compatibility list shared on Discord includes the Snapdragon 782G, 865, 870, and 888, along with newer Snapdragon 7 and 8 series chips. It also covers the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s G-series, and XR platforms.
Chips with a Geekbench 6 single-core score below 1069 are placed in a separate group. The developer says these chips are capable of running the game without a performance guarantee.
Not all Android devices are supported in the first release. Samsung Exynos chips with Xclipse graphics are listed as unsupported for now, including the Exynos 1480, 1580, 2200, 2400, 2400e, 2500, and 2600. Mali GPU support is planned for a later stage.
Google Pixel devices using Tensor chips with PowerVR graphics are listed as not planned. MediaTek Helio chips are also not planned. This means Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 series users will not be able to run the port.
Development Background
M0jso previously showed GTA 5 running on a Nintendo Switch in July 2026. The modder emphasized that this was not cloud streaming, but a native port of the game.
The Switch port required a modded console on custom firmware and heavy overclocking through tools like Horizon OC to reach playable frame rates. Music and sound in cutscenes were working, but saves were still glitchy and graphics sometimes broke.
The Android port aims to run the game natively on ARM hardware. This approach promises better performance than emulation, but requires more complex adaptation work.
Community Caution
There are already files online claiming to be GTA 5 for Android. M0jso’s version has not been publicly released, and those files belong to separate, unofficial projects.
The Android port is based on source code from a 2023 data breach. Take-Two and Rockstar Games may take legal action against the project, which could make it difficult to find a reliable download when it is released.
There is also no exact release date for the first public build. The project remains in development and is still considered early and unofficial.
Current Status
As of September 12, 2026, M0jso has not announced a release date for the Android port. The developer continues to share updates on Discord, where the compatibility list and minimum specifications were first posted.
