Photos of what is claimed to be a Grand Theft Auto 6 Collector’s Edition box appeared on social media on September 9, 2026, before the original post was deleted. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed or denied the authenticity of the images, and no official Collector’s Edition for the game has been announced.
The images were first posted on X by a user named @Alexi0982, who claimed to have worked for about a month in packaging production at Unique Services Group in Mexico. The user shared photos of large black boxes bearing the GTA VI logo and ‘Vice City Leonida’ branding, along with an employee badge from the company.
The original post was later deleted, but the images had already spread to Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours and other platforms. The alleged leaker did not respond to requests for verification, and the images cannot be independently confirmed.
The Box Details
According to the alleged leaker, the box is larger than a PlayStation 5 console package and contains several internal sections. The user said they recalled seeing a circular area inside that could hold a disc.
The alleged leaker posted in Spanish: ‘Alright, screw it all. There’s going to be a GTA6 collector’s edition. I worked for a month in packaging production. I’m leaving photographic evidence of the box design.’
When describing the box, the user said: ‘It has several sections inside, plus it’s a large one, even larger than the PS5’s box. This is already my theory, but it might include the disc in this version. I back it up with the fact that inside the box I remember there was a circular piece where a disc could fit.’
After other users pointed out that Rockstar has confirmed no disc will be included, the leaker walked back the claim: ‘It doesn’t specify for which console, so it might even not have a disc at all (I hadn’t thought of that until I saw your comment).’
When asked about a release window, the user said: ‘No, but I can tell you that right now they’re distributing those editions to every part of the world where they’ll be sold. It might come out after the launch because production will end in November.’
Community Doubts and Alternative Theories
Fans and industry observers have offered several explanations for the images. Some believe the boxes could be press kits or promotional packages intended for influencers and media outlets ahead of the game’s release.
The size of the package has been a key point of skepticism. The box appears significantly larger than a standard retail game case or even a PlayStation 5 console box, which is unusual for a mass-market retail product.
Some observers on Reddit and X have suggested the images could be AI-generated or completely fake. Others pointed out that Rockstar has never announced a Collector’s Edition, and pre-orders went live on June 25, 2026, without one being offered.
The gaming community also noted that the alleged leaker’s story contains inconsistencies. The user claimed they did not sign a non-disclosure agreement, yet they deleted the post out of fear of legal action from Take-Two.
Rockstar’s Silent Stance
Rockstar Games has not commented publicly on the images. The company’s official position remains that GTA 6 will be available in two editions: the $79.99 Standard Edition and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition.
Both editions are digital-first. The physical version of the Standard Edition contains a download code rather than a game disc, a decision Rockstar confirmed after pre-orders opened.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously stated that the game would have a ‘significant physical offering,’ which fueled speculation about a Collector’s Edition. However, no such product has been announced, and the company has not addressed the recent images.
Rockstar has released Collector’s Editions for previous titles, including GTA IV, GTA V, Max Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2. For Red Dead Redemption 2, the Collector’s Box included physical merchandise such as a metal box, coins, and a bandana, but no game disc.
Current Status
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-loading for the physical code-in-box version begins on November 12.
As of September 12, 2026, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the existence of a Collector’s Edition. The authenticity of the leaked images remains unverified, and no credible source has independently corroborated the alleged leaker’s claims.
