Take-Two CEO Says PC Platform Growing in Importance as GTA VI PC Port Rumors Point to 2027

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said the PC platform is becoming increasingly important to the company during the publisher’s annual shareholder meeting on September 17, 2026, while declining to confirm a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI.

The comments came in response to a shareholder question about whether PlayStation 5 Pro shortages could affect Take-Two’s plans for releasing games on PC.

What Zelnick Said

Zelnick began by reframing the question. ‘I assume this is a question regarding the cadence of PC launches,’ he said.

He then outlined the company’s general approach. ‘The strategy of the company is over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience,’ Zelnick said.

‘But that isn’t always the case, and certainly if platforms were no longer viable, we would change that strategy,’ he continued.

Zelnick closed his answer with a direct statement on PC. ‘And I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time,’ he said.

Zelnick did not mention Grand Theft Auto VI by name at any point in his response.

PC Sales Now Match Console

Zelnick has previously shared numbers that show how much the PC market has grown for Take-Two.

When he joined the company in 2007, PC accounted for roughly 5 percent of total sales volume for franchises like NBA 2K.

Today, major Take-Two titles regularly see PC sales represent between 45 percent and 50 percent of total units sold.

Despite this growth, Zelnick said in May 2026 that Rockstar Games still prioritizes console for GTA VI because that is where the ‘core consumer’ is.

‘Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,’ Zelnick said in an interview with Bloomberg at the time. ‘Like, really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.’

Zelnick also said the console-first approach was not due to any marketing deal with Sony. ‘No. I mean, historically Rockstar’s gone to console first,’ he said.

Historic Console Gaps

Rockstar has a long record of releasing games on consoles before PC.

Grand Theft Auto V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and did not arrive on PC until April 2015, a gap of about 18 months.

Red Dead Redemption 2 had a 13-month gap between its console and PC releases.

Grand Theft Auto IV came to PC eight months after consoles, while LA Noire took six months.

The largest gap was for the original Red Dead Redemption, which did not receive a PC release until 2024, fourteen years after its 2010 console debut.

2027 PC Port Rumors

Multiple reports have suggested that GTA VI’s PC version could arrive sooner than the gaps seen with previous Rockstar titles.

VGC editor-in-chief Andy Robinson said on the VGC Podcast in early September 2026 that he believes Rockstar will move the PC release forward. ‘I do think they’ll push the PC version up,’ Robinson said. ‘There’s a bit of noise about that. That perhaps the PC version might arrive sooner than some people might expect just because of everything that’s going on.’

Robinson was referring to rising console prices and hardware shortages. The PlayStation 5 received a global price increase on April 2, 2026, with the PS5 Pro reaching 900 euros and $899.99 due to higher memory and storage component costs.

A separate leak from X user DetectiveSeeds in April 2026 claimed that three former Rockstar employees pointed to a February 2027 PC launch. ‘According to three former Rockstar employees (that I contacted through LinkedIn) Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming to release the PC version in February 2027,’ the post read.

The alleged timing would place the PC version out before the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year in March 2027. DetectiveSeeds said he contacted more than 90 people associated with Rockstar Games through LinkedIn, and only three former employees responded.

These claims remain unverified. Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version of GTA VI.

Online Mode Window

The timing of GTA VI’s PC release could be connected to the launch of its multiplayer mode.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in a Bloomberg interview published September 17, 2026, that GTA VI’s online multiplayer will arrive in 2027. Clancy said the prediction is based on conversations between Twitch and Rockstar.

‘We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,’ Clancy said. ‘You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.’

Rockstar has not publicly confirmed any online mode for GTA VI. Take-Two has said the game will launch as a single-player experience on November 19, 2026.

Take-Two has also confirmed that the existing GTA Online will continue to be supported after GTA VI launches, suggesting both online services will operate at the same time during a transition period.

GTA V has sold over 230 million units, making it the best-selling AAA video game of all time. GTA Online has generated billions of dollars in revenue for Rockstar over more than a decade.

Latest Status

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been officially announced.

Rockstar Games has not commented on Zelnick’s PC-related remarks, Robinson’s speculation, or the DetectiveSeeds leak. The company has also not acknowledged a recent 192 GB archive of development data that surfaced online in September 2026, which contained early GTA VI assets and a cancelled Liberty City expansion for GTA V.
