Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said the PC platform is becoming more important to the company, offering the clearest signal yet that Grand Theft Auto VI will eventually reach computers. Separately, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the game’s multiplayer mode will launch in 2027.
Both comments came during the week of September 15, 2026, as Rockstar Games continues to market GTA VI ahead of its console release on November 19, 2026.
PC Version Signals
Zelnick spoke at Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting on September 17, 2026. A shareholder asked whether PlayStation 5 Pro shortages might affect the timing of a PC release for GTA VI.
The question followed reports that PS5 Pro consoles became scarce after the game’s extended gameplay reveal on Netflix, with some units selling for up to $1,300 at the few stores that had stock.
Zelnick responded with the company’s general multiplatform strategy. ‘I assume this is a question regarding the cadence of PC launches. The strategy of the company is, over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience,’ he said.
‘But that isn’t always the case, and certainly, if platforms were no longer viable, we could change that strategy,’ Zelnick continued. ‘And I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.’
Zelnick did not mention Grand Theft Auto VI by name during the response. Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of the game.
The CEO also shared historical context on PC sales. When he joined Take-Two in 2007, PC accounted for roughly 5% of total volume for key franchises like NBA 2K. Today, major titles regularly see PC sales represent between 45% and 50% of total units sold.
Rockstar has historically released its major games on consoles first. Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and arrived on PC in April 2015, a gap of about 18 months. Red Dead Redemption 2 came to PC roughly one year after its console debut.
VGC reporter Andy Robinson has said Rockstar may be evaluating an accelerated schedule for the PC version due to global hardware supply constraints affecting current-generation consoles.
Online Mode Window
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in a Bloomberg interview published September 17, 2026, that GTA VI’s multiplayer mode will arrive in 2027. Clancy said the prediction is based on conversations between Twitch and Rockstar.
‘We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,’ Clancy said. ‘You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.’
Rockstar has not publicly addressed GTA VI’s online mode or announced a release window for it. The company has only confirmed the single-player campaign for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The original GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V in October 2013. For GTA VI, the wait for multiplayer appears to be longer.
Take-Two has confirmed that GTA Online will continue to be supported beyond the launch of GTA VI. This suggests both online services will operate at the same time during a transition period.
The existing GTA Online has generated billions of dollars for Rockstar over more than a decade. GTA V has sold over 230 million units, making it the best-selling AAA video game of all time.
